COVID is world’s first wearable device to shield humanity from any potential existential threat from deadly pathogens. Our vision is to eventually become an anonymous, autonomous Health Passport to seamlessly and autonomously authorize safe mobility across borders or into high footfall areas. The mission of the COVID-PASS project is to develop, field-test, validate and exploit a versatile wearable device for supporting the containment efforts of the current Covid-19 pandemic as well as future disease outbreaks. Based on cutting-edge technologies like Big Data analytics, Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) and Artificial Intelligence, the device may assist on a) the forecasting of possible next waves of the Covid-19 pandemic and b) preventing the spread of the pathogen by means of anonymous surveillance functionalities that facilitate contact tracing, contact quarantine, social distancing and mobility restrictions, while retaining citizen’s privacy.
The EU PANDEM (Pandemic Risk & Emergency Management) project concluded in 2017 “we are now, more than ever, at risk of a global event that could potentially cost human lives”. The COVID-PASS project shall build on the outcomes of the PANDEM project by implementing its recommendations on detection and prediction tools for decision-making through the COVID Health Passport concept. This will be achieved via a wearable monitoring device that will make decision-making seamless and autonomous, with engrained privacy preserving features. This approach will provide governance and operational preparedness for any health emergency in today’s increasingly mobile world.
The AI and Blockchain powered COVID-PASS wearable device is versatile to an extent that it enables States to autonomously, anonymously and seamlessly monitor and detect the earliest signs of an outbreak and provide extensive support and automation for contact tracing during an outbreak without compromising citizens’ privacy. In addition, it provides a backend database structure that potentially solves the biggest problem that the EHR (Electronic Health Records) industry is facing – Data Silos, with a single API. A Forbes report calls data silos as “healthcare’s silent shame”, which is estimated to be costing $300 billion annually.
COVID-PASS is an offspring of the patent-pending women’s safety device – Xeno, which was invented in 2017-18 and ranked as a semi-finalist in a million-dollar Xprize global challenge. Anonymizing, and yet tracing the device user’s relative location is a key feature of COVID-PASS that enables the autonomous estimation of R0 (basic reproduction rate) status for any potential outbreak. It provides a single FL7-compliant API for universal EHR interoperability, anonymous contact tracing epidemiology tool, decentralized database and blockchain smart contracts for security and immutability of shared health records. It aims to become a definer of the new health and mobility standard globally.
